New Laser Technology Available

New Laser Technology A new VISX (Abbott Medical Optics) Star S 4 has been acquired by The Eye Care Institute. LASIK candidates now can have the most current form of laser vision correction at The Eye Care Institute as this new machine is believed to be only the second S 4 model with Iris Registration in the metro Louisville area.

John C. Meyer, MD is a partner, and LASIK surgeon, at The Eye Care Institute. He said “I have performed almost 5,000 laser vision correction procedures since my cornea and refractive fellowship at Emory University in 1995. This new laser marks a turning point in allowing me to provide more care to those persons wanting state-of-the-art LASIK.” Meyer continued “It is important that our new laser have the Iris Registration option. Along with wavefront-guided custom technology, our system optimizes treatment times and minimizes thermal effects to the cornea. Our laser is absolutely the newest system offering the patients maximum vision acuity.”

Through our dedicated laser vision team at our LASIK Institute of Louisville division, we are now able to provide even more choices for enhanced laser vision correction. In addition, we are offering more surgery dates to meet our patients’ needs. Our LASIK team consists of Dr. John Meyer, Susan Dudley, Amanda Krystaponis, Tabitha Collins and Alex Brunetti. This group is well trained and continues to be very enthusiastic about providing the best of care for our LASIK patients.

LASIK evaluations are always complimentary and can be scheduled during the day by calling 589-1500 or during evening and weekend hours by dialing 1-877-KY-VISION. At a consultation, you will meet with Dr. John Meyer and you will have the chance to see our newest laser technology.

The Eye Care Institute Participates in Step Out

American Diabetes Association Again this October, employees of The Eye Care Institute and their family and friends will participate in the American Diabetes Association Step Out Walk to Fight Diabetes. The walk will begin at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, October 16 at Waterfront Park. The annual event raises money for diabetes research.

Carolyn Miles, one of our technicians and the team captain of our walk, said that The Eye Care Institute participates because of the devastating effect that diabetes can have on the eyes as well as other parts of the body. “Diabetes is the number one killer in the United States, killing more people than breast cancer and HIV/AIDS combined,” she said.

According to the ADA, nearly 24 million Americans have diabetes. The organization funds research to find the cure for diabetes and, in the meantime, to improve the lives of people living with the disease.

Carolyn said that she plans to have various fundraisers to help the staff raise the $500 she has set as her goal and she is looking forward to eager staff participation again this year.
