What Is HIPAA and What Does It Do For Me?
Have you been frustrated by calling our office to check on a matter for a family member and being told that we cannot speak with you? Maybe you have asked that we fax a statement of your charges to your workplace and we have refused. We are complying with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (called HIPAA). HIPAA is a federal law which limits the use of your health information, in an effort to protect your privacy. You will find a copy of our HIPPA policy on our website.
Does this mean that we cannot speak with family members of a patient? No, it means that before we can do so, we must have the permission of any patient who is of legal age and legally responsible. We are happy to discuss pertinent matters with anyone that the patient designates. If you have power of attorney for a relative, we must have a copy of the power of attorney on file before speaking with you. Congress designed HIPAA to protect your privacy.
HIPAA does not prohibit sharing your health information with all entities. We are allowed to share enough information with your insurance company to facilitate payment of your claims and with staff members who prepare documentation for the doctors and insurance claims. HIPAA also allows our staff to call your name when the doctor is ready to see you. It does not allow us to tell our family and friends any information about you that clearly identifies you. To further ensure that your private health information does not fall into the wrong hands, we shred any discarded records rather than throwing them in the usual trash pickup.

ICL Refractive Eye Surgery
ICL or Implantable Contact Lens is, as its name suggests, an implantable contact lens. If you are between 21 and 45 and nearsighted, you are an excellent candidate for the ICL. If you were told that you were not a candidate for LASIK because your corneas were too thin, you may be a great candidate for the ICL. The ICL does not cause or contribute to dry eyes.
With ICL, you are fifteen minutes from better vision without contacts or glasses. Prior to surgery, you will receive anesthetic drops. First, a small incision is made in the cornea. Second, a gel-like substance is injected and the ICL is inserted in front of your lens. Finally, the ICL is carefully placed behind the iris and the gel is removed. That’s it!
For more information on ICL refractive surgery and to determine if you are a candidate, schedule an appointment with Dr. John Meyer. You can also visit the ICL website at www.visianinfo.com.

The Eye Care Institute is the first LASIK center in the region to be so sure you will be happy with your LASIK outcome that we are offering a 20/20 LASIK money back guarantee. If you qualify for this program (there are several medical outcome guidelines that we will review with you during your consultation), either you achieve pre-agreed upon vision or we refund your money.
We are able to offer this guarantee as we are very careful about which patients would be good candidates for the program, we are proud of our visual outcomes and results, and we wish to show our commitment to your visual satisfaction.
Our 20/20 LASIK money back guarantee takes the boastful claims out of LASIK advertising by showing we are confident in our results.
